RAM und Logic - wieveil darf eigentlich im Rechner sein?

Hallo, ich weiß, das Thema ist schon ein paar Mal so halb behandelt worden, aber ich möchte es noch Mal genau wissen.

Wieviel RAM verträgt 5.5.1 PC und was passiert, wenn zuviel im Rechner ist?

Verträgt Logic nur ein freies Gigabyte zugeordnet - oder dürfen definitiv nur 1GB im Rechner sein? Oder etwa 1,5 GB -oder 1,3 GB...? Hat da jemand Erfahrung?

Gibt es vielleicht eine Lösung, damit umzugehen - Logic so zu konfigurieren, dass es auch ein paar Gigs mehr sein dürfen?

Aber das betrifft nur das RAM, virtueller Speicher (von Windows verwaltet) kann eine beliebige Grösse haben.

Aber Hallo,

da muss ich gleich mal nachhaken. Ich hab vor kurzem meinen Rechner mit 2,5 Giga RAM aufgemörtelt. Heisst das ich muss in logic irgendwo eine Begrenzung festlegen ?
Vielleicht könnte mir da jemand sagen wo und wie ich das anstelle ?

Genau Rudi - Du kannst wahrscheinlich 1,5 Gig wieder rausreißen - oder in der MSConfig lahmlegen, was genauso blöd ist. Sonst spinnt Logic! Manche empfehlen auch ein Dual-Boot-System, damit man bei Cubase oder Abelton volle RAM hat.

Also, ich werde die Frage mal anders formulieren. Gibt es hier irgendjemanden im Forum, der einen Rechner mit mehr als ein 1 GB Arbeitsspeicher hat - und dennoch normal mit Logic arbeiten kann, also frei von Fehlermeldungen?

Es ist nun mal bekannt dass Logic 5 für Windows Probleme mit mehr als 1 GB RAM hat . Folgende Kommentare habe ich von der LUG kopiert, vielleicht gibt es Abhilfe.

Logic PC is several years old now, it does not understand more than
1 Gig memory.
Modifying the system.ini may help, copy paste the text below to your
sysyem.ini file and reboot.

I have subsequently found that the most efficient way of switching
between setups is to add an extra line to the boot.ini file (I'd only
recommend this for advanced users, I don't want to risk messing up
anyone's PC!):

Under '[operating systems]' in boot.ini, I now have:
'multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition" /fastdetect' (no quotes)
This is the normal setup with 2Gig RAM.

But the next line is:
'multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP for
Logic" /fastdetect /maxmem=1024'

The 'maxmem' part is added automatically by msconfig. But by having
*both* lines in boot.ini, you are given a choice when you boot
between the full RAM system (for general apps) and the limited 1Gig
one (for logic).
I'll be interested to hear how this works for people -- please ask if
anything's unclear.

I have found a workaround for the problem of Logic interpreting RAM in excess of 1Gig as 'negative' memory and thus producing the notorious 'out of memory' message when you try to glue audio and import midi.

The answer is: you can limit the amount of memory that Windows (and all applications) "sees". This requires a reboot but can be easily switched back to full RAM with another reboot.

First, make sure your system is set to allow Windows to manage the swap file. (in Control Panel > System > Advanced > Settings)

Then go to Start -> Run, type "msconfig".
Click the boot.ini tab.
Click 'Advanced Options'.
Tick 'MaxMem', and in the box type "1024" (no quotes).

When you click Ok to leave msconfig you will be prompted to reboot.

When the PC restarts (at least, when _mine_ restarts -- lol!) I am able to finally use Logic without the ridiculous memory problem.

You can verify that the amount of memory 'seen' by the system is only 1gig by going to control panel > system.

It is still a shame that this requires you limit the available memory, even if only temporarily; however many of you have dual boot music PCs anyway, so it would be simple enough to make the music installation permanently 'see' only 1gig of RAM.

I do hope this helps everyone. I think it's shameful that emagic won't update their Windows program now that they are owned by Apple, but am glad to at least not have to take the RAM physically out of my machine!

Falls es jemanden interessiert: Ich konnte durch Abschalten diverser Dienste in der Verwaltung oder MSConfig extrem viel Performance - und auch sehr viel RAM gewinnen.

Mittlerweile kann ich bis 1600 MB auslagern, ohne dass die Wiedergabe anfängt zu knacksen. Vorher war bei 800-900 MB spätestens mit schlimmen Artefakten zu rechnen. Demnach fahre ich mein System also mit 2,6 GB Ram - wovon 1,6 ausgelagert sind. Allerdings funktioniert das Spiel am besten auf reinen Audioworkstations, denn hier können fast alle Dienste abgeschaltet werden. Zudem sollte die Auslagerungsdatei eine eigene, stets defragmentierte Partition von ein paar GB haben - und sich auf einer schnellen Festplatte befinden.
Jetzt funktioniert sogar mein Virus TI :-).
